COMMISSIONER’S REPORT Bob thanked Louis Pacella of LA Hockey for working with the parent discussed last month that had received a one year suspension. The parent wanted to appeal the suspension with legal counsel involved. Agreement was reached to modify the suspension from 1 year to 9 months, as long as the parent completes an anger management class (with proof delivered to SCAHA.) The parent will remain on probation for the remaining three months of his original suspension.
Both Bob & Sandy will be attending the Youth Council meeting on 8/28 along with Lisa England in Northern California. Email Bob with any topics to discuss at meeting. Big topic will be tier schedule.
GUEST Jason Galea of San Diego Saints made a presentation regarding the San Diego Saints program, which currently has approximately 140 new kids to hockey in their program. Teams ranging from squirt to midget, looking for exhibition games against SCAHA teams. Future intent would like to join SCAHA.
In addition discussed that CAHA would like to create a new parent program, which would help teach parents what their role is, educate parents and their effect on their children and other adolescents watching their actions. Jason is currently completing his doctorate in psychology and is working towards becoming a sports psychologist. His masters’ thesis was working with children in his program and looking at how the perception of their parent relationship with their coaches affected the kids. Approached the CAHA board that he would be willing to share his findings. In the process of preparing to turn over to USA Hockey, California is one region within USA Hockey that does not currently have a parent program. CAHA would like to set-up a parent education program and parental code of conduct program.
