                                                                                                (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Guest

Bob Doherty introduced Lauren Brosamer, coordinator for the CA state Games being held during the Presidents’ weekend In the San Diego area.  The CA State games are part of the US Olympic committee and are the largest amateur local sports festival. What makes their festival really special is their torch lighting ceremony. They try to give their participants the entire Olympic-like experience. Information was handed out to all of the clubs. She strongly encouraged the local teams to register early as this event fills up early.

Bob Doherty introduced James Cefaly, Director of Community relations and Kings Fan Development for Los Angeles Kings.  He gave an update regarding the pink pucks -Hockey Fights Cancer Campaign and Staples Center Skates.

Commissioner’s Report

Art Kitano gave an update regarding the scheduling of the officials. So far the games have occurred without any problems. He expressed his concerns regarding the scheduling of officials for exhibition and AAA games. He stated that we have about 106 officials working, of which 50 officials are working full time.

Sandy Blumberg distributed a handout as prepared by LAHOA. She summarized LAHOA’s proposal as presented to the executive committee at a special meeting held on October 1, 2007. Paula Frankel motioned to reject LAHOA’s recent proposal as submitted to the SCAHA Executive Committee on October 1, 2007. (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Deputy Commissioner’s Report

Sandy Blumberg urged the club presidents to make sure to pay the officials regularly, on time and correctly. She also informed the board that the officials’ rates are posted on our web site. She reminded the board that they are to use Norm Kitano to schedule all of their games, including exhibition and AAA games. Sandy reiterated that the preseason games went extremely well. So far the regular season has seen incidents regarding abuse of officials. She strongly urged the presidents to instruct their coaches to have deliberate conversations with their players regarding officials that are intervening during altercations and that players are responsible for their surroundings and knee-jerk reactions whether they believe they were pushing away opponents or not. Deliberately inflicting physical harm to an official carries a year suspension.

In addition, she asked the presidents to remind their coaches of the CAHA rule of leaving the bench during an altercation. And finally, make sure to report to Sandy as well any match penalties.

Rosemary Voulelikas asked how the travel cap for officials of $300 per club (last year’s contract) is being addressed this year. Art Kitano stated that he is submitting everything to Bob Driffill who will in turn send invoices to the clubs.  Rosemary Voulelikas motioned for the clubs to contribute $50 each towards the $300 travel cap for officials.

                                                            (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

STAFF REPORTS

Member Services – Wendy distributed via email earlier today the Player fee chart indicating the outstanding fees still owed.  Wendy reported to the board that she still has more approved player-up forms to distribute. Every SCAHA player will receive the new SCAHA patch. And she informed the board that over 40 coaches were suspended in week 1 and week 2. These coaches were suspended for not being screened or rostered, etc.

Ice Convener – Chris stated the schedule is not entirely available on sportability as of yet. He is still working on it. Many of the obstacles are odd number of teams, girls’ blackout weekends, Select camps, etc. The major problem he has right now is CAHA’s decision to schedule the State ‘B’ playoffs one week sooner than last year. He is trying to maneuver through this to see if the B division teams will have a 16-game or 17-game schedule. Another significant problem is the shortage of officials. He stated there is a lot of manipulation going on with the schedule right now.

Treasurer - Bob Driffill distributed copies of the financial statements dated September 30. He also stated that he would like all checks and correspondence to be addressed to the following mailing address: P.O. Box 3287, Burbank, CA 91508

Ace Coaching Coordinator Larry Cahn thanked all the presidents. He finally has all the names of the A.C.E. Coordinators for each club. He stated he will try to send out monthly information to the A.C.E. coordinators.

New Business

CAHA A/B Championships – Bob Doherty informed the board that the San Diego Jr. Gulls will be hosting the CAHA A/B state championships.

Mini-Mite – Bob Doherty informed the board that SCAHA will be forming a steering committee to investigate incorporating Mini-Mites in a SCAHA schedule or not. Tim Fahringer was appointed chair of the committee. Tim stated that the steering committee will meet in the next few weeks and would consist of clubs interested in forming Mini-Mites.

Old Business

Select Camp – LeAnn Doherty reported the dates for the Pre-Select SCAHA camp are December 15-16, 2007 at Riverside. The format will be two birth years on Saturday and two birth years on Sunday. She reiterated that all of the forms will be made available for the clubs to email it out to their respective membership. All ‘94, ‘93, ‘92 and ‘91 birth year ‘A’, ‘AA’ and ‘AAA’ players are invited to attend. The deadline to submit the completed forms and payment is November 16, 2007. There will be no refunds after December 1, 2007. Leann Doherty stated that she would like every club to send two volunteers to help with evaluating, coaching, etc. Larry Cahn stated that coaches should send him an email with the days and times that they are able to help at the Pre-Select camp.

Champs – Laura Ryan asked for any updates to the Ducks involvement in the C.H.A.M.P.S. program. LeAnn Doherty reported that as soon as she receives the numbers she will meet with the Ducks and be able to get the patches. The due date for the list of names of the qualifying players is October 15th.

Scholarship – LeAnn stated that the scholarship application deadline was October 1st, and the scholarship committee has received 49 applications and they are reviewing them. Laurie Boaz has not yet announced any of the recommendations.

CAHA Membership – Sandy Blumberg stated that all of the clubs should have already submitted their renewal CAHA membership application to Jill Miller, CAHA Director of Member Services.

SCAHA Playoffs – Sandy Blumberg reminded the board of the new playoff rule for this season that the playoff number of berths per division was suppose to be determined in October (has not yet occurred) and announced in November. She advised the presidents to come prepared for next month’s meeting to vote on the number of berths per division.
