                                                                                                (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Commissioner’s Report

Bob Doherty reported on the SCAHA Pre-Select camp. Bob thanked all the volunteers who helped at the camp. He thanked Larry Cahn and LeAnn Doherty on a great job.

Bob Doherty opened up the discussion regarding moving the tryout dates. Bridget Hopkinson motioned to keep the tryout dates as stated in the rules: Tier I to start on the first Friday of June, Tier II to start on the second Friday of June and the A/B tryouts to start on the 4th Friday of June.

                                                                                                (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Deputy Commissioner’s Report

Sandy Blumberg reported on three separate issues that are now occurring frequently and needs to be corrected.

1-    She has received complaints regarding locker room behavior. We have received three separate complaints regarding destruction of property and vandalism. The rules are clear. Once a complaint is received usually by a rink and SCAHA determines culpability the invoice must be paid within 30 days. She informed the presidents that if SCAHA determines that the clubs are not doing their job in conducting hearings, then SCAHA will step in and conduct full hearings and will require the entire team to attend. Sandy stated that SCAHA will intervene and insure that culpable teams/clubs will pay the invoice. She added that presidents must inform their teams that when teams enter a locker room and there is something already wrong then the team must report it to the rink as soon as possible.

2-    Sandy stated that many of the coaches are not signing the score sheets. Once again, the rules are clear. Coaches must sign score sheets. It is as simple as that. SCAHA will revert back to double checking score sheets to insure that all coaches have signed them that were present.

3-    And lastly Sandy reported on coaches refusing to shake hands at the end of a game. We have had two separate incidents where coaches are instructing their players not to shake. This is unacceptable on all levels.

STAFF REPORTS

Member Services – Wendy stated that she still has the SCAHA patches for the following clubs; the Saints, the Mariners, the Red Wings and the Jaguars.  Final rosters were due 12/31 and the A/B rosters had to be post marked by January 7th for A and January 15th for B. Wendy reminded the board that the $50 travel fee for officials that was voted on needs to be paid. Please send payment to Bob Driffill. And finally, Wendy reminded the board that coaches had until 12/31 to obtain their appropriate coaching certification levels and/or recertification renewals. Coaches that have not obtained the appropriate levels will be pulled off the rosters.

Ice Convener – Chris stated we will need to add an additional game in divisions where teams play the Girls’ teams twice (Midget A16, Bantam A, Bantam B, Peewee A and Squirt B) so that all teams will have 16 games count towards the standings.

Chris reported on the PWA SCAHA game #1817 LA Hockey Club vs. Bakersfield Dragons which was originally scheduled for Oct. 16. The game had to be postponed due to a major accident on Highway 5 and still needs to be rescheduled. The LAHC and Dragons need to report back to the league, date and time of the rescheduled game. The game was a home game for the Dragons.

Chris informed the board that there is an outstanding score sheet missing for the Dec. 22 PW AA Jr. Gulls vs. Vipers’ Dec. 22 game. The assumption is the game was played since Chris was not notified of any rescheduling request, etc. The league requires the score sheet to be submitted as soon as possible.

Chris reminded the board of the SCAHA playoff schedule conflicts with CAHA State A and CAHA State B Championships. The Executive board is recommending that the Semi-Finals and the Championships games to occur in the same weekend, with the Semis occurring on Saturday the 15th of March and the Championships occurring on the 16th of March. Rosemary Voulelikas motioned to accept the Executive Committee’s proposal to have the SCAHA Round Robin playoffs during the weekend of March 8-9th for both A and B divisions and to have the Semis and the Championship games for both A and B divisions during the same weekend of March 15-16th as per above.

                                                                        (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Chris Carcerano stated the SCAHA Playoff bid packet will be revised to reflect the above and will be sent shortly to all the clubs for solicitation to host the playoffs. Please communicate with your rinks to submit their bids.

Statistician - Annie Fisher distributed the penalty minutes via email earlier in the week. She is asking the presidents to make sure to forward the information she will be emailing regarding the SCAHA playoff program to teams advancing in a timely manner. She will require team pictures in Jpeg or Tiff and the team roster as a word document.

Treasurer - Bob Driffill distributed copies of the financial statements dated December 31. Bob Driffill reported that only 6 teams have paid the referee travel fee. If you have not paid please do so immediately. The last page of the financials indicates the player fees paid to date. Please review and submit payment for outstanding balances as soon as possible. Kevin Culbertson motioned to allocate funds in the budget not to exceed $1500 for the purchase of Easton Sport embroidered SCAHA jackets for the Executive committee.                                                            (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Rosemary Voulelikas asked for clarification for the procedure regarding teams that cancel games at the last minute. Bob Driffill stated that the club prepares the invoice and sends it directly to the club in question. If there is no re-numeration then send a copy of the invoice with the back up to Bob Driffill and SCAHA will then notify the club.

Referee-in-Chief No report at this time.

Ace Coaching Coordinator Larry Cahn reported on the SCAHA Pre-Select Camp. The camp went extremely well. 18 forwards, 12 defensemen and 12 goalies were selected to move forward to the CAHA Select Camp. There were a total of 10 evaluators and 12 bench coaches for a total of 22 coaches from 11 clubs.  Larry stated he was somewhat disappointed that he did not get representation from all 20 clubs. It is SCAHA’s goal to make the camp better each year. Please provide any feedback by emailing Larry Cahn.

New Business

Bylaws 8.02 and 8.03 – Bob Doherty reminded the board of the SCAHA bylaws requiring attendance at the SCAHA meeting. The bylaws allow for a provision to have a representative conduct business for the club provided the club notifies SCAHA. Bob stated SCAHA will send a letter to these club presidents reminding them that there are consequences associated with continued absences to SCAHA meetings. Rosemary Voulelikas asked what the requirement would be of missed meetings that would warrant a letter from SCAHA, 4 missed meetings, 3 meetings. Bob Doherty stated moving forward, all clubs should receive a letter from SCAHA reminding them of the bylaws regarding attendance and of the consequences associated with not attending or sending representation.

Block Recruitment – Ron Mayhew motioned for a waiver to the Block Recruitment rule for the player Luc Quintanella on the Wildcats Squirt A team.

                                                                        (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Bob Driffill motioned to have the board submit a recommendation to have the rules committee seriously review the removal of the 22.01 Block Recruitment rule.

                                                                        (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Old Business

C.H.A.M.P.S. LeAnn Doherty reported that she has received 300 tickets from the Ducks for distribution. As they come available she will distribute to the Champ players.  She informed the board that she has received the Ducks approval to purchase the Ducks’ Champ patches. The Kings’ Champ patches have not yet been distributed to the players. LeAnn stated she was waiting to finalize with the Ducks before she distributes to all. In addition she is working with James Cefaly to finalize the Kings’ tickets as well.
