Commissioner Bob Doherty called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm with a quorum present.

Minutes

Kevin Culbertson moved to approve the minutes of the February meeting with the following addendum to indicate that the Anaheim Jr. Ducks were present.

                                                                                                (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Guest

Bob Doherty introduced Brent Tubbs, LAHOA Vice President, who came to discuss the future relationship of LAHOA and SCAHA. The following items were discussed:

  • LAHOA would like to have another chance to work with SCAHA
  • Past proposals were “very close” and there is definitely an opportunity to have a contract
  • LAHOA has approved “on-line” scheduling
  • SCAHA is invited to attend LAHOA meeting and LAHOA knows that the same is true of LAHOA being invited to attend SCAHA meetings.
  • LAHOA is hoping for a multi-year contract
  • Quality of officials and a mentoring program for young officials.

Feedback given to Brent Tubbs by those in attendance included:

  • Need upper level officials to work lower level games (ie: Mite and Squirt).  Perhaps we could schedule AA games next to Mite and Squirt game.  Brent explained that it’s difficult to get an experienced official to work the lower paying games, but understood that this is a priority for us.
  • The presidents would like more evaluation done, but Brent explained that it costs more to do more.  Fee structure and ideas for implementation were discussed.
  • It was conveyed that if an agreement is reached, our desire is to see that Art and Norm Kitano are protected since they stepped forward to help us when things broke down with LAHOA.

The presidents agreed afterward that a committee would be formed to discuss a possible contract with LAHOA that meets our priorities.  That committee or a representative would work with LAHOA after coming up with a list of priorities and when a new proposal is drafted, it will come back to the SCAHA Board of Directors (most likely in May). Bob Doherty appointed Larry Cahn, Chris Carcerano and Jason Galea to head the committee. The committee will meet on March 29, 2008 during the CAHA ‘A’ State Championships in Escondido. Chris Carcerano asked for feedback from presidents by March 21, 2008.

Deputy Commissioner’s Report

Sandy asked for volunteers for the rules committee which will meet after State Playoffs have concluded.  Volunteers included:  Kevin Culbertson, Larry Cahn, Joe Conrad, Bridget Hopkinson, Chris Carcerano, Laura Ryan and Wendy Goldstein.

Staff Reports

Member Services – Wendy Goldstein distributed a list of outstanding SCAHA player fees. She reminded the presidents that the $50 referee travel fee must be paid.

The Delinquency list must be submitted to Wendy by April 15. Please include name of player, date of birth and names of siblings if known. Clubs should be sending out letters to their financially delinquent members advising them of the fact that they will be placed on the league wide delinquency list and will not be permitted to participate in any club tryout until their contractual financial obligations have been met.  The SCAHA Delinquency list will be made available to the presidents as of May 1st, when players become “free agents.”

Ice Convener – Chris Carcerano thanked all the venues hosting the SCAHA playoffs. There were no major issues.

Statistician – No report at this time.

Treasurer - Bob Driffill distributed copies of the financial statements dated February 29. Bob Driffill reiterated Wendy’s statement regarding the outstanding player fees and the $50 referee fee and to send in their payments if they have not done so immediately. He would like to clear the books as of April 1st.

Referee-in-Chief No report at this time.

Ace Coaching Coordinator Larry Cahn asked the presidents to make sure that the CAHA State playoff information is forwarded to those teams advancing, in particular the host hotel information.
