Commissioner Bob Doherty called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm.

Minutes

Kevin Culbertson moved to approve the minutes of the March meeting.

                                                                                                (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Guest

Bob Doherty introduced Chris Croty, of the LA Kings Fan Development, who came to inform the presidents of the LA Kings summer program.

  • 18th Annual Kings Camp which will run in August for one week.
  • Daryl Evans Workshop in June which will run once a week in June.

Bob Doherty asked that Chris send him the attachments of the two flyers and he will distribute to the SCAHA presidents.

Chris Croty asked the presidents if there is anything they would like for the Kings to run, example, players’ and/or coaches’ clinics, etc.  Bob Doherty suggested they hold coaches’ clinics and coordinate with Larry Bruyere, Pacific District Coach-in-Chief so as to be able to certify coaches’ levels. Rosemary Voulelikas suggested the Kings hold initiation clinics for Student Coaches. This has never been done before and almost every club has a handful of players wanting to student coach on the younger teams.

Deputy Commissioner’s Report

Sandy Blumberg stated that the rules committee has already been formed and they will be bringing rule change proposals for voting at the May SCAHA meeting. Sandy stated it is very important that the presidents all attend in order to be able to vote in any changes.

Sandy updated the presidents with the LAHOA negotiations. A committee met during the CAHA “A” state playoffs and went over LAHOA’s last proposal. They are going to meet with LAHOA on April 30.

Staff Reports

Member Services – Wendy Goldstein informed the presidents that the 2008-2009 season LOI’s will be distributed at the next SCAHA meeting in May.  Wendy reported there are seven-(7) clubs that owe outstanding SCAHA player fees and four-(4) clubs that owe the $50 referee travel fee. Clubs who still owe money will not be receiving their LOI’s.

Wendy reminded the presidents about the screening and coaching level requirements of new coaches. Any coach who was removed from the 2007-2008 season rosters because of inadequate coaching certification levels is not permitted to be rostered for the new season. He must obtain the proper certification levels before he may be allowed to be rostered on any team.

Wendy asked for the names of new club registrars to be submitted to her along with their contact information. Wendy reported on the “revert” status of players, “not signing with a club by August 31, 2008,” and stated that the revert status will be removed from the LOI.

Ice Convener – No report at this time.

Statistician – Wendy Goldstein reported on behalf of Annie Fisher. The Tier II and “B” stats are now open on Sportability. The “A” stats will most probably be open sometime next week. Wendy informed the presidents they will receive an email with the names of players being awarded USAH player award patches for shut outs, hat tricks and play makers. Please make sure to send the information back with the players’ addresses.

Treasurer - Bob Driffill distributed copies of the financial statements dated March 31. Bob Driffill reiterated Wendy’s statement regarding the outstanding player fees and the $50 referee fee and to send in their payments immediately. Dave Bigelow asked what the bank fees represent. Bob stated that the bank fees are for checks returned (NSF) by clubs.

Referee-in-Chief No report at this time.

Ace Coaching Coordinator No report at this time.

New Business

CAHA Nominations: Bob Doherty reiterated the importance of club presidents to be in attendance at the SCAHA May meeting. CAHA Nominations are due April 19, 2008 to the CAHA Secretary.

District Elections: Bob Doherty reminded the presidents to vote in the District Elections. The two candidates running are Frank Lang and Charlie Fuertsch. Deadline to vote is April 30, 2008 via email.

Manager’s Meeting: Once again SCAHA will hold a managers’ meeting around August 24-26th, 2008. Sandy Blumberg suggested we look for a central location so that all clubs may be present at the meeting. Bob Doherty is asking for any ideas regarding a central location to please send him an email.

Old Business

C.H.A.M.P.S: LeAnn distributed the CHAMPS patches. First year CHAMPS athletes will be receiving their respective CHAMP patch and second year recipients will be receiving a smaller patch (shape of a puck).

Scholarships: Information will be made available on the SCAHA web site. There are seven-(7) $1000 scholarships available including Carmen Starr and the SCAHA Champs.
